I'm so thrilled to be back at The Bar Method thus week after a car accident derailed my life 8 weeks ago.
The added stress of the Chiropractor, Neurologists, Massage Therapy, and Physical Therapy appointments plus the constant pain in my neck accompanied by the numbness, tingling and burning in my arms has definitely been a source of discouragement.
I now have 3 herniated discs in my neck and ligamentous laxity in my upper cervical spine that will likely never fully resolve. At the 8 week mark, the discs are at their point of maximum improvement. I will always have a pit in my stomach as I check my rearview mirror every time traffic slows unexpectedly.
Although I will never recover 100%. I know how to manage my remaining symptoms as well as the activities to avoid to limit the number of flare-ups I will have moving forward.
Instead of asking why me, I've chosen to focus on gratitude. I'm thankful my kids were not in the car. I'm grateful for the improvement I have experienced in the last 8 weeks under the care of Dr. Keith Jeffers, Dr. Sanjay Ghosh, MD, Water and Sports Physical Therapy, and Sekala Massage I'm grateful that I have been cleared to return to The Bar Method to resume my work out routine.
Lingering hugs with my beautiful daughters, long walks with our sweet puppy, my favorite Pandora stations, in-home massage therapy visits, and deep breaths are just a few of the things that have helped keep me centered.
So many things in my life have not gone my way, but along the way, I've learned to shift my focus from the things I can't control to being grateful for all the things that make life beautiful.
