Summer Rain in Annapolis

When it came to planning a lifestyle, shoot in Maryland this past summer, I put myself in the capable hands of my friend Cynthia Schiavetto owner of Schiavetto Photography. Cindy had relocated to Waldroff, Maryland from San Diego and I was excited for her to show me some of the local discoveries she had made since her move. We prepped my hair and wardrobe at her house then hopped in the car to embark on an adventure.

In the 30 minutes it took us to travel to our destination, the sunny summer sky darkened. Rain clouds were looming, and they grew thicker by the minute. By the time we reached Annapolis, the rain had started, and the sunny afternoon we had planned was not to be. Fortunately, I love summer rain as it is something I don't often experience in San Diego. The rain just meant that we would need to alter our plans a bit.

We had planned to meet the make-up artist Elena Little at an outdoor park but needed a new plan. As we looked for parking in Annapolis, we drove by Hudson Fouquet Salon. The big windows displayed a lovely fresh, warm, dry space. We walked to the front desk and requested a hair appointment and space to apply makeup for the shoot. The salon was able to accommodate all of our needs. We were paired with Briana who offered to style my hair in braids that would withstand the rain. The whirring of the blow dryers, the hissing of the cappuccino machine and the chit chatting between stylist and clients made for a perfectly relaxing experience. Once hair and make-up were done, we set off to explore the city.

Annapolis is the charming capital of Maryland. Located on the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis is about 30 miles East of Washington D.C. This quaint little town is a perfect place to spend the day although I'd like to return someday and spend the weekend. The entire city is walkable, and there is no shortage of things to see. The Maryland State House is a very prominent historic building in the middle of this pedestrian-friendly town. There are galleries, museums, restaurants, shops, a naval academy and even organized tours. If water activities are what interest you then you can watch the waterfront activity from the city dock or take a tour by motorboat, sailboat or kayak.

In our case, we were combining a sightseeing mission with a plan to create photos for The Nurture Blog. We walked the city and enjoyed all of the sights, smells, and sounds of the rainy, summer afternoon.

Despite the fact that I ruined my Loeffler Randall Leather Sandals walking through the puddles, Cindy, Elena Little and I had a perfect afternoon walking through the city, exploring the sites. I so enjoyed soaking up some American history as I roamed the streets of this exceptional colonial town.
