When Robert Kenyon, the Editor of Discover Rancho Santa Fe asked Shannon Henry and me to create image content for a feature he was planning, we were so excited to oblige.
As I had recently met Natalie, co-owner of the chic local boutique Salt-Culture, I approached her with the request to provide wardrobe for the project. She was happy to help, and I am pleased to report that the Salt Culture staff in addition to being skilled at putting together fashion-forward ensembles for any occasion are friendly and sincerely helpful. I might be old-fashioned, but when I shop, I expect a high level of customer service. Salt did not disappoint.
Shannon and I set out towards downtown San Diego on a Tuesday night. We were fortunate to have Jax Connolly from Jax Connolly Photography tag along with us. Jax provided a third creative opinion a second set of hands and is always a joy.
Fortunately, Shannon is quite familiar with downtown San Diego as she has shot so many projects all over San Diego County. It was nice to be able to turn my thinking cap off and have the opportunity to enjoy myself.
We parked the car near Petco Park, I put on outfit number one and set off on our Gas Lamp adventure. With a Padres' game in session, there were several blocked off streets, so it was fun to start our photoshoot in the middle of a city street.
Again, thanks to Shannon's knowledge of the area, she led us to the coolest spots. We explored the rooftop of a parking garage, the lobby of the Pendry Hotel, the Gaslamp Quarter Sign, and ended our evening at J Six bar. The bartender was happy to honor our request and created two beautiful cocktails for our photographs. On the rim of one glass, he placed mustard flowers. For the other cocktail, he used basil to garnish the spicy jalapeno beverage.
As the premise of Robert's article dictates, it is so fun for those of us who don't live downtown to spend an evening enjoying and exploring all of the things the Gas Lamp District has to offer.
My favorite things about blogging are the connections I make, the relationships that result and the adventures I am blessed to experience. My evening out left me craving more.
